Which prop firms allow VPS?

Short answer

Four of the 12 prop firms we checked allow a VPS, each with conditions: FTMO, Alpha Futures, Tradeify and FundedNext, whose CFD accounts may use one only below $50,000, for a fee. Topstep and FundingPips ban it. Five firms don't say, and we couldn't check Apex.

VPS, VPN and copy-trading rules by firm

Traders rent a VPS, or virtual private server, in a data centre to keep a platform or bot running all day, or to sit closer to a broker’s servers. A VPN makes your connection appear to come from somewhere else, or hides where it comes from.

We took each firm’s rules from its own rules pages and help centre on 30 September 2026. “Not stated” means we found no rule on the firm’s own pages.

Why firms restrict VPS use

Prop firms want each account traded only by the person who owns it. A VPS or VPN can hide that several people share one account, or that someone else is passing an evaluation for you. Topstep and MyFundedFutures tie trading to a device. Topstep’s API rules say “All trading activity must originate from your personal device.” MyFundedFutures’ fair play rules say “Each individual trader may not use the same device (tablet, phone or computer) as used by another trader.”

FundedNext says “Sharing your VPS connection with others is completely prohibited”, and it bans a VPS used for “Account Management” services or “Group Trading” (FundedNext). FundingPips’ trading conduct rules say “We monitor IP activity to ensure changes follow a consistent and realistic pattern.”

Firms also can’t serve traders in restricted countries, and a VPN or VPS can make you appear to be somewhere else. Take Profit Trader’s country rules include “the use of VPNs, remote connections, or shared networks that may route activity through a restricted country”. FundedNext bans a VPS or VPN with an IP address from a restricted country.

Some firms tie their VPS rules to automation, because a VPS can run a bot all day and can cut the delay to the firm’s servers. Topstep links its ban directly to automation: “Running automation on a VPS can result in account suspension or removal from the program.” It lets you use a private server for research, backtesting, logging and dashboards, but not for orders: “The line is order transmission: your server can watch and record, but it cannot trade.” FundedNext’s CFD accounts work the other way round. A VPS there is only for an EA that takes trades, and “VPS usage for manual trading is strictly prohibited.”

Speed matters to firms because most funded accounts are simulated, and very fast orders can beat a simulator’s fills.

What a VPS does for your trading

Where a firm allows one, a VPS keeps your platform online while your home computer is off, and it can cut the delay between you and the firm’s servers. It doesn’t change where your orders go. At most firms they still go to a simulator and never reach an exchange, and the firm’s HFT and hold-time rules still apply.

No VPS needed at ROMER

ROMER is a funded-trader program for algorithmic and high-frequency traders from Entity Capital, LLC, in development with a waitlist and a closed beta first. We run your algo on our own hardware inside the exchange’s data centre, an arrangement called colocation, so you don’t need a VPS or servers of your own. The latency design target is under 1 microsecond, against roughly 30 milliseconds for a home internet connection to a simulator; both figures are illustrative. Your monthly fee pays for running the algo there, and planned launch pricing, which may change, is Starter ($25K) at $149 a month, Pro ($50K) at $249 a month and Elite ($100K) at $399 a month, with no activation fee.

Quick answers

Does Topstep allow a VPS?

No. Topstep says "The use of VPS, VPNs, and remote servers is prohibited". You may use your own private server for work that doesn't touch order flow, such as backtesting and logging, but it cannot place, change or cancel orders.

Does FTMO allow a VPS?

Yes. FTMO's FAQ says "The use of VPN/VPS is also generally allowed." It asks traders not to set their location to the United States when using MetaTrader, cTrader or TradingView.

Can I use a VPN with a prop firm?

Topstep and FundingPips ban VPNs. FTMO, FundedNext and Breakout allow them with conditions, and some firms, such as Take Profit Trader and Breakout, want the VPN switched off when you sign up or verify your identity.

Can I copy trades between my own prop firm accounts?

At most firms, yes. FTMO Futures, Topstep, FundedNext Futures, Lucid, Take Profit Trader, Alpha Futures, The5ers and FundingPips allow it in some form. Copying another person's trades is banned almost everywhere.

Do I need a VPS for ROMER?

No. ROMER runs your algo on its own hardware inside the exchange's data centre. The monthly fee pays for running it there. ROMER is in development, with a waitlist and a closed beta first.
