Do prop firms allow copy trading and trade copiers?

Short answer

Mostly yes, between your own accounts. Ten of the 12 firms we checked allow copying across accounts you own, usually with limits such as Topstep's "up to $750K buying power". Copying another trader or a signal service is banned at every firm that addresses it. Neither Breakout nor Apex covers your own accounts.

Two kinds of copy trading

Copy trading means two different things at a prop firm, and the firms treat them very differently. The first is copying your own trades. You place an order on one account, called the lead, and a trade copier repeats it on your other accounts, the followers. Tradovate calls this group trading, and platforms such as TopstepX and WealthCharts have a copier built in.

The second is copying someone else: another trader, a paid signal service, a stranger’s master account, or a service that trades your evaluation for you. Almost every firm we checked allows the first within limits, and every firm that mentions the second bans it. FTMO’s futures rules cover every route in, from “signal services, master accounts, trade copiers” to “any manual or automated arrangement where decisions originate from someone other than you”, and add “regardless of whether the service is paid or free”.

Each firm’s rule

We took each rule from the firm’s own help centre or rules pages on 30 September 2026. “Not stated” means we found no rule on the firm’s pages.

*Apex’s row comes from its prohibited activities page, checked on 30 September 2026. Apex’s site blocked our automated check of its other help pages, so we couldn’t look there for a rule on copying between your own accounts.

Firms tell the two kinds apart by checking ownership. FundedNext may ask you to prove that every account is “registered under the exact same name”, and Tradeify’s Tradovate guide says “You may only group trade between accounts you own and manage.” Account limits are often set per household. FundedNext counts “family members or multiple users who share the same residential address or IP address” together, Lucid’s limits apply “per household or family”, and Alpha Futures lets only “one individual per household” use its services.

Where copiers get traders into trouble

A copier can break the ban on hedging across accounts, meaning a long position on one account and a short on another, without you noticing. Tradeify warns that “a copier configured to invert direction, or a lead account flattened while followers stay open, creates opposing positions across accounts and is a hedging violation”. Topstep’s hedging rules accept that “Technical glitches and copy trading software can create temporary opposite positions”, but add that “you’re still fully responsible for all activity across your accounts, including anything created by automated systems or third-party tools.” Lucid bans “Hedging across multiple accounts held by the same user” even where copying is allowed.

Copying doesn’t merge the accounts’ rules, either. FTMO says “Copying does not pool, average, or otherwise modify the individual rule requirements of any account.” On TopstepX, “The Lead account must have the lowest Maximum Position Size (MPS) of all accounts in the group”, followers are flattened when the lead hits its Daily Loss Limit, and “When a Payout request is submitted, Follower accounts are automatically unlinked.” Permission can also stop at the live stage. Topstep’s copier works on its simulated Trading Combine and Express Funded Account, but “Live Funded Account® accounts cannot use the Trade Copier.”

Copier errors are your problem. Alpha Futures says it “is not liable or able to fix any issues you may face while using a trade copying software”, and MyFundedFutures says it isn’t obliged to provide “technical support, troubleshooting assistance, or account resets for any issues stemming from copy trading activities”. Take Profit Trader goes further and says unapproved copiers “may result in enforcement action”.

A bot you bought can also look like copy trading, because other buyers run the same trades. FTMO’s CFD FAQ warns that with a third-party EA “there might be other traders already using the same EA and therefore exactly the same strategy”, and its futures FAQ says “no copy trading across registrations is allowed and FTMO requires you to use a unique strategy”. The5ers lists “EA from a third party, where other traders have the same trades open (copy trading)” among its prohibited practices, and Tradeify says of bots: “We scan to ensure there are no similar orders on other accounts.”

Copying between firms

A few firms let you copy trades to accounts elsewhere. FundedNext Futures allows it when you own all the accounts, and FundingPips lets a FundingPips account lead a follower at another firm or broker, though only a FundingPips account can be the lead. Tradeify takes the opposite view for bots: “using it across multiple firms is against Tradeify’s policy.” Hedging across firms is banned where firms mention it. The5ers bans opposite positions “across accounts held with different providers, or proprietary trading firms”, and Lucid bans “Hedging between different firms or funded platforms”.

Where the algo runs at ROMER

ROMER, our funded-trader program for algorithmic and high-frequency traders, runs each trader’s algo on our own hardware inside the exchange’s data centre. Orders go out from those machines, not from a platform on your own computer. ROMER hasn’t published copy-trading rules. An algo passes a simulated evaluation, then has to pass again in a Verification stage on new trading days, and the best algos go on to trade our own capital on the real exchange. The trader keeps 80% of real profits, though funding isn’t guaranteed.

Quick answers

Can I copy trades between my own prop firm accounts?

At most firms, yes. Topstep, FundedNext, Tradeify, Lucid, Take Profit Trader, MyFundedFutures, Alpha Futures, The5ers, FundingPips and FTMO's futures program allow it, each with limits. FundedNext's CFD program allows it only between Challenge Accounts.

Can I copy a signal service into a prop firm account?

Not at any firm that addresses it. FTMO Futures bans copying from "signal services, master accounts, trade copiers" where the decisions come from someone else, FundedNext bans trading signal services, and FundingPips bans "Inbound copy trading".

Can I copy trades from one prop firm to another?

Some firms allow it. FundedNext Futures allows copying to other prop firms if you own every account, and FundingPips lets a FundingPips account lead a follower account at another firm or broker. Tradeify says using the same bot across multiple firms is against its policy.

Does Topstep allow a trade copier?

Yes, in the Trading Combine and the Express Funded Account, "up to $750K buying power", with up to 5 active Express Funded Accounts. Live Funded Accounts can't use the copier, and followers are unlinked when you request a payout.
